Employee Highlight – Kylie Smith
We are proud of our employees and the pride and care they take producing your orders and want to share their stories with you.
Each month we highlight one of our employees and the department they work in! You will get a look behind-the-scenes here at the lab, and get to know one of our own a little bit better.
Kylie Smith – H&H Small Print Department
When photographers visit the lab and take a tour through our production areas, one common theme that is expressed is how amazed they are at all the different work stations and processes it takes to complete an order. One of these production teams is our Portrait Group. We think you will enjoy learning more about this group from one of it’s special team members, Kylie Smith!
Q: What is your job title/position?
I am part of the Small Prints production team. I primarily work with small prints for the portrait side of our business, but am also cross-trained in multiple areas including SSE printing and dye sub.
Q: How long have you worked for H&H?
I have been with H&H since March 2017.
Q: What did you do prior to working for H&H? How do those skills help you with what you do now?
I worked as an assistant manager for a retail clothing company. I think some of the skills that I have brought forward from that company have to do with being able to focus on one thing at a time, and seeing a project through to completion, as well as the customer service aspects. I also think the management skills have been useful in terms of getting the work done and working with my team. I always have in mind that everything I do is to benefit the business, and to take responsibility for what I do to contribute to the business as a whole.
Q: How big is the staff/team that you work with?
We have a team of seven in my department. There is a lot of give and take. We really rely on each other and help each other out when things get busy. The great thing about my department is that you don’t even have to ask for help sometimes. People just step up and help when they can to make sure the work all gets done. It’s really nice to know that I have such a supportive team.
Q: How has the company changed in the years since you first started working here?
I have only been with the company a little over a year. In that time, however, so much has changed! The company really does try to constantly review and improve the processes in our production departments to make sure they are efficient. We are organized in a completely different way than we were when I first started at the lab. We are now divided into separate teams such as SSE assembly, small prints and large prints. We also moved the warehouse upstairs to be more efficient.
Q: What is it that you love about your job? Or how do you measure a job “well done” in a given day?
I feel like it is a good day, when I have given it 100%. When I give my best effort and have good output with a low number of remakes, that makes me feel good about what I do.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time, hobbies, interests etc.
I do outdoor portrait photography when I have time. I love using natural light. My husband and I also do a lot of mountain biking. We enjoy flipping houses. We are currently in the process of flipping a house near the stadiums. That takes a lot of our spare time! I like to travel whenever I can. There are so many places I want to see. My top picks in the United States include the sand dunes in New Mexico, the Redwood Forest and Yellowstone. I love going to Colorado when I can. We like to mountain bike there and are lucky that it really is not that far away.
Q: Tell me a little bit about your family/personal life.
I have been married to my husband for seven years. We do not have any children.
