Employee Highlight

Employee Highlight! New section for the Connections newsletter

march-2016-photo-lab-nesletter-6Welcome to this new section of the Connections newsletter. We are proud of our employees and the pride and care they take producing your orders and want to share their stories with you. Each month we will highlight one of our employees and the department they work in! You will get a look behind-the-scenes here at the lab, and get to know one of our own a little bit better.

Lisa Morse, Recruiter
With the growth that we have experienced here at the lab, we created this new position to help us take better care of our customers. We are so excited to have you on board, Lisa! It will be great to have a full-time recruiter to keep us well-staffed, especially during our busy seasons.

Q: So what did you do before coming to H&H?
A: I grew up around the business of recruiting. My mom is also a recruiter and has had her own company for around 25 years. I learned about recruiting around the dinner table! I started answering phones for her when I was about 10. My first real recruiting position was with Wyndam International (the hotels before they were bought by Hilton). I have worked for companies like Dean Foods, FedEx, TXU (the largest energy provider in the state of Texas), American Eagle Outfitters, Allstate, CitiBank, Yellow Book, Kenexa and others. I have had numerous years recruiting sales and sales management people. In addition to my recruiting background, I worked as a property manager for a company with 251 units. I learned to work with a lot of different personalities. I was fortunate to do this kind of work for a long time. Most recently, I worked for Kelly Services on their American Eagle Outfitters account, placing light industrial people (pickers and packers) at the Ottawa location outside of Olathe. That is similar recruiting to what we’re needing here. I have been very fortunate to work with great teams and recruiting managers that were so open with their experience and knowledge. That has really helped develop how I work.

Q: You have also mentioned doing theater on the side. That sounds like fun–how do you think your theater work helps with the recruiting position?
A: Theater has helped me really become comfortable with all kinds of people, audiences and situations. My most recent work was Sordid Lives at the Barn Theater. It’s a lot of fun!

Q: Where did you grow up?
A: I grew up in Leawood, but spent 22 years in Texas, so I consider myself a Texan through and through. My family is in Texas-so I consider it home. My dad is minister at a cowboy church down there. I grew up with a cowboy lifestyle. My parents are competitive ropers and active in the Red Oak community in Texas.

Q: You mentioned your dad–can you tell me a little bit about the rest of your family?
A: I met my husband, David, in high school. I have two boys, Devon is 20 years old and in the Army at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Steven is 23 years old and is a sophomore at SMU.

Q: So now that we have you here at H&H, what are some of your goals for us?
A: I think change can be challenging, and I told the staff that this is going to be tough. We need to work together to build a pipeline of excellent talent so that we have deep resources for our busy periods. My goals are to get more active in the local community, do more outreach, and to hold job fairs regularly to recruit potential employees.

Q: What do you like so far about H&H?
A: The owners have made a point to make me feel comfortable. They are super nice and so supportive. I feel very welcome!
