Employee Highlight – Eric Kabel
We are proud of our employees and the pride and care they take producing your orders and want to share their stories with you.
Each month we highlight one of our employees and the department they work in! You will get a look behind-the-scenes here at the lab, and get to know one of our own a little bit better.
Eric Kabel – Purchasing Department
Our purchasing department manages everything from keeping inventory and stock for all supplies needed for our products, to working in the wood shop to making wooden stretcher bars and other fabrications for use in products. This small, but mighty team of four, also is responsible for accepting all deliveries on our loading dock. So every load that comes in, they unload and deliver to the correct department. Eric Kabel, is an excellent example of the hard-working staff here at H&H Color Lab. He strives to do his best, and appreciates the positive impact his efforts have on other departments within the lab.
Q: What did you do before coming to the lab?
I worked at a dry-ice company for about seventeen years. Before that, I worked as a crew chief in the Air Force, on an AC130 gun ship. I worked in that position for eight years. Our squadron was involved in ’89 when we took out Noriega in Panama.
Q: How long have you been with the lab?
I have been with H&H since May, 2010. I started out in the Album department, then worked as a Water Spider and Router. This position involved running orders from one department to another and tracking the order. After that position, I worked in Large Prints. I have been with Purchasing for about three years now.
Q: What are some of your main responsibilities in the purchasing department?
I train all of the staff that comes through Purchasing. Our department handles everything from keeping track of supplies, inventory and stocking, to cutting wood, metal and other materials for use in our products. If it needs to be cut, I can do that. That includes everything from Gallery bars, latex, metal and paper. We cut everything for the Digital Press, Album and Large Print departments. We also accept all deliveries and unload and keep track of these.
Q: What do you really enjoy about your job?
I like knowing that when I do my job, it makes other people’s jobs easier. I try and be speedy because supplies for production are important, and I don’t want them to be waiting. I also enjoy working in the wood shop. I prefer to keep moving, and like the freedom to move from department to department.
Q: Tell me a little bit about your family and hobbies.
I am married, with one 14 year-old daughter. We also have one dog, four cats and one gigantic goldfish named Megaladon. He is 14” long and about 7” tall! He has his own 30-gallon tank all to himself. In my spare time, I like doing projects around the house. I like to take some of the skills I have learned in the wood shop at work, and build things at home.
