Employee Highlight – Chris Meyer
We are proud of our employees and the pride and care they take producing your orders and want to share their stories with you.
Each month we highlight one of our employees and the department they work in! You will get a look behind-the-scenes here at the lab, and get to know one of our own a little bit better.
Chris Meyer – H&H Production Support
Chris has an official title, Production Systems Specialist, but in talking with him—my take away was expert “jack of all trades”.
Q: So where did you work before coming to the lab and how did that impact the work you do here?
A I worked at Black River Imaging, formally known as Dameron Color Lab, for about five years and then came to H&H in 2000. When I was at Black River, I worked with paper processing and helped them move into the digital world. I worked with Kodak’s dp2 software. Dp2 was probably at version 2 at that point and now they up are to version 20. My wife and I had decided to move from Springfield back to Kansas City. I looked into print labs in the area and found H&H Color Lab! When I interviewed, and they realized I had lab training and was also knowledgeable about dp2, they hired me.
Q: What do you do primarily?
A I initially worked on a project to convert traditional photographic trader cards to digital, since I had understanding of dp2 and digital production, along with my digital printing skill set. Over the years, I helped the lab transition to digital printing, among other things. I have worked in many areas and now focus on digital work, using Kodak’s dp2. Dp2 is lab order management software. I help take the basic information from an order, make sure that it can be ingested properly into dp2 and output to the correct place in the lab. In that respect, I work quite a bit with workflow and helping different systems within the lab communicate with one another. I use Kodak’s scripting language for some processes to help the different systems work well together. I’m a good resource when it comes to answering questions from IT, Customer Service and Production related to dp2 and workflow.
Q: What do you really enjoy about your job?
A I like the end result. I like mapping out a process and having the people on the floor use it. When the process I come up with helps our production staff do their job more easily and efficiently or makes their lives better, it makes me feel good about what I do. It makes it easier for our team members to do their job and it puts H&H in the best light possible. I also like working on fine tuning the rendering process and streamlining the output process for different types of products.
Q: Tell me a little bit about your family and hobbies.
A I am married with no children. I like to go bass and fly fishing. I enjoy fishing down at Truman Lake with my father as often as I can. We also live in a 110-year-old, three-story home in Kansas City, so that keeps us busy! We enjoy it, though.
I also do volunteer work for an organization named “Saving Sight”. I was fortunate to be the recipient of two cornea transplants. I help them out with projects and occasionally speak to groups about my experience. It’s an important part of my life and something I care deeply about.
